 FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. is a major passenger sedan joint-venture of FAW Group Corporation and Volkswagen AG, Audi AG and Volkswagen Automobile (China) Investment Co., Ltd. It is China’s first modern passenger sedan industrial base of considerable economic scale.
FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. was formally established on February 6, 1991, and officially received by the State in August 1997. The company’s Plant II for passenger cars officially began production on December 7, 2004. Through its continuous expansion, FAW-Volkswagen has become a company with a daily production capacity of over 1000 motor vehicles, with additional capacity for export of assembled vehicles; powertrain and component parts.
FAW-Volkswagen adopts advanced technologies and equipment to manufacture some of the world’s most famous brands – Jetta; Bora; Golf; Caddy; Sagitar and Audi. The establishment of the company heralds the entry of China’s automotive industry into a new era of large-scale production. The company has been acknowledged by the former Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation as a “Technologically-advanced Enterprise”; the National Bureau of Statistics of China had bestowed the company with the honor of “China’s Outstanding Automotive Manufacturing Enterprise”, and the National Mechanical Industry Bureau awarded the company first prize for being a “Major Contributor to the Promotion of Improvements in Science and Technologies”. In 1998, FAW-Volkswagen officially passed the ISO 9001 Quality System Certification, and in 2002, the company passed the ISO9001:2002 standard certification, as well as ISO14001 environmental control certification. Furthermore, the company was awarded VDA6.1 supplemental certificate by TüV Group of Germany on March 20, 2004. The company’s products also received the Chinese environmental certificates on January 2006.
Beginning with the production of the first batch of Jettas in 1991, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. had grown from an enterprise with a registered capital of merely RMB3.712 billion, to a major automotive enterprise with total assets of RMB27.6 billion. To-date FAW-Volkswagen’s cumulative taxes exceed RMB40 billion. |
